Tourism / Discovery
Classified as one the « Most Beautiful Detours of France », Mauriac is one of the oldest Cantal towns and welcomes you between the Dordogne valley, the Regional Natural Park of the Auvergne Volcanoes and the Puy Mary.
The location of Mauriac will give you a total change of scenery. The « Val Saint-Jean » area, its lake and long trails offer you calm and relaxing walks in nature. Other activities are also possible: golf, pedal boat, fishing, playground. Enjoy the other part of the city, where the old railway has become a cycling and walking path.
Travel back in time and discover all the secrets of this nearly 2000 year
old medieval town thanks to Virtual Reality. The remains that have now disappeared (or not) are reconstructed in 3D thanks to a mobile application that illustrates 3 major periods in the town’s history: Antiquity, the Middle Ages and the 19th century. Download « Legendr » on Google Play or Apple Store, select Mauriac and plunge into history.
Mauriac is also a rural town where you can hear the Auvergnat dialect spoken and which obviously has a rich gastronomy. The city is located in the region of cheese and cows of Salers. Let yourself be tempted by this delicious food: truffade, cooked meats, Cantal cheese, Bleu d’Auvergne, Saint-Nectaire, meat from Salers… Bring some of Mauriac back with you!
For the younger ones, Mauriac also has an aquatic center, a skate park a city parc.
